Though relatively new to fine art photography, Colin is not new to this world. He was born in Halifax and has spent his adult life in Nova Scotia. He enjoyed a 33-year career in teaching (high school History) and in union leadership roles. Since retirement, he has been able to return to his early love of art, photography and design.
Photography for Colin is not just about capturing moments in time. It is about applying imagination and skill to transform images into aesthetically interesting, provocative and inspiring visual experiences. His photo art attempts to reflect his way of seeing and living in this world. Like music, taste and touch, seeing is a sensuous pleasure: Colour, texture, contrast, shapes and pattern (in even the simplest things) are to be savoured and celebrated. Creating and seeing can provide a healing counterpoint to the disconnecting complexity of modern life. This is what Colin seeks to apply to his work.
