Jennifer Modigliani

Jennifer is a Canadian Photographer with an English background. She has traveled widely and much of this is reflected in her art and personality.

She has a diploma in commercial photography from the Western Academy in Victoria, B.C.,  as well as two degrees in Anthropology.  She has been a professional in the field for twenty years, most of that time in Victoria, British Columbia. In January of 2008 she came out to Nova Scotia to live and is starting again on the east coast.

She was given her first camera when she was seven years old. Her father was a photographer as well as a physicist and her earliest memories include his old darkroom and fibre based prints, many of which she still has. At university she initially took art courses and at the age of nineteen built her own darkroom out of cardboard in a hallway. Those were the distant days of washing prints in buckets, near asphyxiation in an airless cupboard, and so on! Since then her techniques have refined considerably and she now does all of her work on the computer, a tool that provides endless creative possibilities.

On a tour, at a wedding, on location, she focuses completely. “My best images have a point of view and touch something in the essence of the moment that resonates with some viewers, something that opens a door to another perception. They are never calculated and always spontaneous. I cannot plan such an image.”
