Dog Days of Summer, frequently used to describe the hot period between early July and early September, has its origins in the Late Latin Diēs Canīculārēs (Dog Star days), so called because the Dog Star (Sirius) rises and sets with the sun during this time. The expression Dog Days has also come to be used for any period of lethargy, inactivity or indolence.

Viewpoint Gallery seeks to support emerging artists in the community through the NewLight: Emerging Photographers Competition. The winners of this juried competition are having their work displayed at ViewPoint Gallery in a group show during September, 2015.
This is an eclectic group show featuring the images of photographers who are recently graduated, or who are relatively new to the art. This juried exhibition showcases the works of Valentina Casalini, Nolan Drew, Kate Giffin, and Jim Ross, four photographers who were selected for their individualism and the diversity of their themes.
Beyond Image Capture: Creating for the Lens Lorraine Field Friday, September 11 at 7pm Lorraine Field will discuss in an illustrated talk the evolution in her work of creating situations to be photographed.
