November 4-29, 2009 Reception Thursday November 5, 2009
From the spring of 2007 to the fall of 2008, Viewpoint member Robert Barriault made the photographs in this exhibition while walking on the streets of Halifax and other towns in Nova Scotia. He used simple “point and shoot” digital cameras that he could operate easily and carry in his pockets.
He worked intuitively, tapping into his knowledge of art and photography, composing images using the content of store displays and the reflections on the window glass that framed them. These reflections can be seen literally but also as the result of reflective thought and reference to earlier work by either the artist himself or to the work of other photographers he has absorbed, consciously and subconsciously, in his creative process.
