Farther/Further Afield - Ford Doolittle Exhibition Running: Wednesday, April 1 to Sunday, May 3, 2015 Opening Reception: Thursday, April 2, 6 - 8 pm Artist Talk: Sunday, April 12, 2 pm
This show follows from Ford Doolittle's 2012 "Closer to Home" at ViewPoint, in which all photographs were taken within two blocks of the Gallery. Ford has ranged farther in his shooting, geographically, and is trying to get further into the aesthetic of the mundane, aesthetically. As an unregenerate modernist, Ford thinks there is some truth out there, or some truth about the relationship of the camera to what is out there, that can only be approached. Ford's heroes, William Eggleston, Stephen Shore, John Gossage, have gotten closer to this truth than he ever could, but he likes to think that he is on their trail.
